90% reduction in compute energy by 2030.

The goal is committed in OpenIE’s Delaware Public Benefit Corporation charter. The IEA projects global datacenter electricity demand at 945 TWh by 2030 — more than Japan’s national consumption today.

The goal is load-bearing. It is not "improve efficiency" — it is a structural reduction of an order of magnitude measured against the trajectory of conventional compute infrastructure. A reduction of this size cannot be reached by incremental optimization of existing substrates. It requires changes to what compute does in hardware, to which substrates host the operations, and to the software stack that orchestrates them.

ThermoEdge is the data-tract instantiation of OpenIE’s published framework, the Periodic Stack of Computation. The sibling subsidiary, JoulesPerBit, ships the joule-priced cloud platform commercially today. Cloud revenue and chip-to-invoice joule accounting compound the work on the deeper hardware that ThermoEdge delivers.

What ThermoEdge inherits from OpenIE.

The hardware arm carries the parent’s commitments into silicon. The three below are not slogans — they decide what we will and will not ship.

01 · The unit

Priced in joules.

Every primitive invocation is metered. The customer is billed against the second law — cost of compute in joules, plus operations. Nothing rides on a markup nobody can audit.

02 · The lifetime

Make once, use forever.

The unit of sale is the artifact’s lifetime, not the refresh cycle. Components do not get replaced; the artifact gets retired. Refresh cycles are an anti-feature, not a roadmap.

03 · The loop

Return the substrate.

The artifact comes back at end of life. The substrate is re-made. Possession of the closed loop is a position the second law underwrites — not a moat the patent office sells.
